Hi, I’m Nicki Sun.
I’m a host, filmmaker, educator, and advocate for underrepresented voices in media. If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re curious about what I do—and maybe, more importantly, why I do it.
I wear a lot of hats. I direct, produce, write, shoot, host, and edit my own content. I run my own media company. I speak on stages about creative entrepreneurship, technology, and authenticity. But at the core of it all, I’m a storyteller and community builder who believes in the power of representation and reclaiming our narratives.
You might know me as the creator and executive producer of The Nicki Sun Show—my video podcast where I shine a light on culture-shifting creatives and amplify stories that rarely get center stage. It’s a show I built independently from the ground up, often filming in my guests’ home, with the support of a small but mighty team (sometimes just me!). Whether I’m interviewing Academy Award-nominated filmmakers in our shared hometown or featuring rising artists in tech and media, I’m fueled by the joy of intentional conversations and documenting culture in real time.
Over the years, I’ve had the honor of working with brands like Samsung, Aputure, SanDisk, Kingston Technology, and RØDE. I’ve produced content and red carpets for MovieWeb, Character Media, Myx TV, and my own outlet. From directing the 18th annual Unforgettable Gala to hosting Disney x Pixar’s Turning Red world premiere, these moments have affirmed something I’ve always known deep down: we belong in every room—on both sides of the camera.
And showing up fully hasn’t always been easy. In 2025, I survived a near-fatal car accident that shifted everything. I realized life is too short to keep waiting for the “right time” or “right opportunity” to pursue what matters. That experience didn’t change my mission—it clarified it. I’m not creating for clicks or clout. I’m creating with intention—to heal, to connect, to uplift.
Outside of content creation, I also work as a public speaker, consultant, and educator. I’ve spoken on panels and stages across the country, including at NAB Show in Las Vegas, IBC Show in Amsterdam, Final Cut Pro Summit in New York, my alma mater UC Davis, and universities that want to prepare students for a rapidly evolving creator economy. I’ve also provided Media Training for the City of San Leandro. I’m proud to serve on the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Creator Council, where I advocate for creators like me—those who never saw themselves reflected in traditional media but showed up anyway. Together, we’re helping NAB build more inclusive initiatives, expand access to industry resources, and ensure creator voices shape the future of content creation, distribution, and representation.
Everything I do—whether it’s interviewing Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander creatives during their red carpet premiere, editing a podcast episode at 2 a.m., or teaching someone how to use a multi-camera livestreaming device—is rooted in the belief that we rise together. That our stories are powerful. And that sometimes, the most revolutionary thing we can do is to take up space without apology and know we are enough.
So thank you for being here. For supporting independent creators. For wanting to know the person behind the lens. I hope this is just the beginning of a conversation between us.
Let’s build something meaningful together.
